Sawn Timber - Pressure Treated Square Posts
-
All our sawn timber, square ended posts are pressure treated at our approved treatment plants.
Pressure treatment extends the life of the post to prevent insect attack and premature fungal decay
We can supply the posts in a natural green finish or with a darker brown colour.
Our 100x100mm posts are ideal for use with all our fence panels and the feather edge boards
The 75x75mm posts are more lightweight post for use with smaller fences and areas that are not so windy.
Sawn Timber - Pressure Treated Pointed Posts
Pressure treated posts to prolong the lifespan of the timber.
The posts have a 4 way point to allow for driving into soil.

Pressure Treated Waney Lap Panel
-
Economy Fence Panel
All our waney lap panels are made from pressure treated timber.
Each batten is made from 16x38mm timber - 5 on the front and 5 on the back of each panel.
The top and bottom batten on one side are made from a stronger 22x50mm batten.
Every panel has a bevelled weather cap on the top - ex 20x50mm - finishing at 16x44mm
The waney boards vary in width and so each panel may have more or less boards than its neighbour - although we use on average 18 boards for a 6' fence.
The battens are held together by weather protected ring shank nails for extra strength.

Reclaimed wooden sleepers - technical advice
-
Reclaimed Creosoted Railway Sleepers
Wooden sleepers that have been taken out of the existing railway infrastructure do need to be handled with care. There are European regulations in place that require we tell you the rules regarding reclaimed railway sleepers. It is important to remember that you need to wear gloves when you are handling them and goggles and a face mask if cutting them. There are also restriction in place as to where the sleepers can be used. Do not let the strong words in the regulation unduly worry you though. There are thousands of gardens around the UK with reclaimed railway sleepers in place - just keep yourself safe.
ALL RECLAIMED SOFTWOOD SLEEPERS ARE TREATED WITH CREOSOTE AND THEREFORE MUST BE HANDLED WITH SUITABLE PROTECTIVE GLOVES
Regulations
In 2003 the UK Government transposed European Directive (2001/90/EC) into UK legislation Statutory Instrument 2003 No. 1511 covering the control of the marketing and use of creosote.
As an organisation we have a duty of care and a responsibility to inform you, the client, of the restriction this directive imposes on the use of second-hand/reclaimed creosoted railway sleepers. This has been implemented so as to ensure a high level of protection of the health and safety of all recipients of creosote and creosoted products including railway sleepers.
Sleepers treated with creosote may NOT be used for the following:-
inside buildings, whatever their purpose
in toys
in playgrounds
in parks, gardens, and outdoor recreational leisure facilities where there is a risk of frequent skin contact*
in the manufacture of garden furniture such as picnic tables,
for the manufacture and use and any re-treatment of: containers intended for growing purposes, packaging that may come into contact with raw materials, intermediate or finished products destined for
human and/or animal consumption.
other materials which may contaminate the products mentioned above
*As advised by the DTI frequent skin contact is avoided when handling sleepers by wearing protective gloves.
Further clarification of this directive can be found by accessing the European Union Library website (http://eur-lex.europa.eu/en/index.htm) and searching for 2001/90/EC

All our close boarded, feather edge panels are made from pressure treated timber.
Each batten is made from 32x50mm timber - 2 vertical battens and either 2, 3 or 4 horizontal battens, depending on the panel height.
The battens are screwed together using weather protected screws.
This makes for a very strong panel frame.
Every panel has a bevelled weather cap on the top - ex 22x50mm
The feather edge boards are 125mm wide and are overlapped by 25mm - we use 18 boards per 6' wide panel.
Every board is nailed to each batten - 76 nails for a 6' x 6' panel.
The boards are nailed with weather protected ring shank nails for extra strength.
-
Decorative Panels

All our decorative panels are made from pressure treated timber.
The frame work is made from 45mm planed timber - rebated to allow the boards to slot in.
The frame is mortised and tenoned at the joints and then stapled together using weather protected extra long staples.
This makes for a very strong panel frame.
Where panels have curved, the curved piece of timber is made from laminated timber, held together by industrial grade outdoor glue.

Feather Edge Boards - Closeboard Fencing
-
Each board is cut from a 22mm thick and 125mm wide square board.
The saw blade is angled to cut across the 125mm face to produce a sloped board - approx 13mm on one edge tapering down to approx 8mm on the other edge.
Each board should overlap its neighbour by at least 25mm or 1 inch. This will help ensure there are no gaps when the timber shrinks and expands with the British weather
When you nail the boards in place, nail as close to the thicker edge as possible WITHOUT hitting the board underneath. This will allow the board to expand and shrink without splitting the boards
Make sure you use galvanised round wire nails - 50mm is the perfect size. If you do not use galvanised nails, you will find dirty rust streaks running down your new fence the first time it rains - and the nails will eventually rust away and the boards will come loose
