A guide to decorative fencing

A guide to decorative fencing

There are many types of timber fencing for the architect, developer and homeowner to choose from for both front and rear gardens. In our latest guide we look at decorative garden fence panels.

What is decorative fencing?

Unlike the more traditional closeboard fence panels that we are used to seeing mark out a property boundary, decorative fencing consists of decorative fence panels that have attractive, eye catching detail. Often used to create zonal areas in larger gardens, where they can provide a real focal point, decorative fence panels are also used as boundaries where they offer the same privacy as a traditional fence, but with a greater aesthetic appeal.

The benefits of decorative fencing

The variety of decorative fence panels available means that there is a style to suit every type of home and garden.

Slatted panels create a feeling of size and space in smaller gardens and also suit contemporary spaces and courtyards.

Decorative fencing will provide the privacy and security required from a boundary fence while looking attractive and appealing.

Decorative fence panels are a great way to introduce character, and add visual interest, in the garden and can provide a great backdrop to dramatic planting schemes.

Shorter length decorative panels can also be used in a front garden where a reduced height boundary may be more suitable.

Decorative fencing manufactured from pressure treated timber is strong and durable.

Types of decorative fencing

Decorative fence panels are available in a choice of styles to suit all property types. They can feature shaped or curved tops as well as straight edge tops and arched profiles. The fence panel can also be slatted or woven and may feature a trellis top. Additionally trellis panels are available in a wide assortment of sizes and are suitable as boundaries where privacy is not a consideration, and they have a part to play within a garden for creating different areas.

Decorative fencing from Witham Timber

Many a neighbour dispute has begun over fences and which side is yours, but with decorative panels, this can be avoided as panels are dual faced. This means that both sides are the same, allowing each neighbour get to have the ‘good’ side of the fence on display and ending all arguments. Panels can be used with concrete fence posts or timber fence posts but if using gravel boards, make sure that the width corresponds with the width of the panel. Our decorative fence panels and trellis panels are available in a variety of heights and widths making them suitable fences for front gardens too.
