The MS500i W combines groundbreaking injection technology with a suite of professional-grade features designed to make serious forestry work easier and more efficient.

At the heart of the saw is STIHL's electronic fuel injection system, which continuously calculates the correct fuel supply and ignition timing via sensors measuring air pressure and both internal and external temperature. This ensures optimum engine performance under all operating conditions — including altitude and extreme weather — without the need for a manual start position or choke setting.

The heated handle system uses maintenance-free, wear-free heating elements that can be switched on as needed, keeping hands warm and maintaining a firm grip in cold conditions. For re-tensioning, the side-mounted chain tensioner allows for quick, protected chain adjustment and replacement without removing the sprocket cover entirely, with captive nuts ensuring nothing gets lost in the process.

Oil consumption is kept low through the STIHL Ematic system, which combines a compatible guide bar, Oilomatic saw chain, and a controlled-delivery oil pump to direct oil precisely where it's needed — reducing consumption by up to 50%. For dusty conditions or long guide bars, oil volume can be increased easily via the pump system.

Additional features include a tool-free bayonet fuel and oil cap for quick refuelling, a decompression valve for easier cold starts, and STIHL's anti-vibration system which dampens engine oscillations through buffer and spring elements to reduce fatigue during extended use. The redesigned sprocket cover is narrower and flatter than previous models, with integrated slide rails and a guide edge to make delimbing smoother and chip removal more efficient. Rounded bumper spike teeth match the natural contour of tree trunks for a more positive bite when felling or cutting to length. A plunge guide mounted to the fan housing aids directional accuracy during plunge cuts.
