The BGA 50 is powered by the included 36V AK 20 lithium-ion battery, which slots into the tool's housing and provides up to 20 minutes of working time on a full charge. As with all STIHL AK System tools, the battery is interchangeable with other compatible tools in the range. STIHL's Constant Power technology ensures blowing performance remains consistent from the start of the charge to the end — unlike many cordless blowers where output fades as the battery depletes.

Blowing force is controlled via a variable trigger, allowing power to be dialled up or down to suit the task at hand. For lighter work such as clearing dry leaves from gravel or hard surfaces, reduced power extends battery runtime and gives more precise control. For tougher tasks such as shifting wet or compacted leaf debris, full trigger engagement delivers the maximum 11 Newton blowing force. This flexibility makes the BGA 50 effective across a range of garden surfaces and debris types.

The blower is well balanced for comfortable use over longer periods, and its low noise output makes it a considerate choice in residential areas or settings where petrol-powered equipment would be disruptive. The blower tube detaches from the housing without tools for compact storage, and an integrated carrying ring at the base allows the tool to be hung neatly on a wall in a garage or workshop.
