Powered by a 36V lithium-ion battery from the STIHL AP System, inserted directly into the engine housing for optimal balance and mobility, the HLA 150 uses Constant Power technology to maintain consistent cutting performance from the first cut to the last, regardless of the battery's charge level. With the recommended AP 30 battery, working time reaches up to 107 minutes on a full charge.

The EC motor drives the blades to a maximum of 4,000 rpm, with three selectable speed settings at 3,200, 3,600, and 4,000 rpm. Speed is adjusted via the ergonomic control handle without pausing work or changing grip, and lower settings help conserve battery runtime when maximum power is not needed. The lightweight magnesium transmission keeps overall tool weight low without compromising robustness — essential for a tool being held and manoeuvred at extended reach throughout the working day.

The 60cm double-sided blades are laser-cut and diamond-ground to produce long-lasting, hardened cutting edges that are friction-optimised for efficient movement through foliage with reduced energy draw. They cut effectively in both directions — vertically, horizontally, and around corners — and cope well with thicker branches. If the blades jam mid-cut, the anti-lock feature automatically reverses blade movement on trigger release to free them quickly. A tip protector safeguards the blade ends and makes close-to-ground and wall-edge trimming more manageable.

The cutter head adjusts through 145° to tackle all hedge angles and profiles from a comfortable stance, and the tool is suitable for both left- and right-handed users. The IPX4 splash-water protection rating ensures reliable performance in rain and wet conditions, and the fine metal mesh air filter protects the EC motor while remaining easy to clean for long-term, low-maintenance operation.

The integrated STIHL Smart Connector enables fleet management through the STIHL Connected app and portal, providing real-time visibility of operating hours, tool age, and maintenance status across multiple tools and sites.
