The HTA 30 is powered by two AS 2 lithium-ion batteries from the STIHL AS System, delivering quiet, low-vibration performance suitable for use in noise-sensitive environments without hearing protection. Per AS 2 battery charge, the tool delivers up to 140 cuts and approximately 28 minutes of runtime (measured on 5x5cm dried spruce), providing ample capacity for typical garden maintenance sessions. The AS System batteries are interchangeable with other compatible STIHL AS tools including leaf blowers, grass trimmers, hedge trimmers, garden pruners, and powered secateurs. An LED charge status indicator gives an at-a-glance reading of remaining battery power without needing to remove the battery.

The steplessly adjustable telescopic shaft extends from 190cm to 280cm without tools, covering working heights up to 4.5m at full extension. A rubberised grip sleeve runs the length of the shaft, allowing it to be held comfortably and securely at any point to suit the working height and position. The shortened form makes the tool straightforward to carry and store.

The compact, slim cutting head uses a STIHL 1/4" PM3 saw chain and a 20cm Light 01 guide bar for clean, precise cuts through branches up to 17cm in diameter, with excellent visibility of the guide bar during cutting and good manoeuvrability in tight spaces within tree crowns. Chain tensioning is automatic via a spring-loaded mechanism under the sprocket cover — simply fold out the handle and rotate the cover to set the correct tension without tools, even when wearing work gloves. The sprocket cover removes easily for quick cleaning and maintenance. A transparent oil tank allows the chain oil level to be checked at a glance. The sturdy branch hook assists with removing cut or loose branches from height.

The softgrip control handle with ergonomic two-sided unblocking is equally suited to right- and left-handed users, and all controls are designed for use with work gloves. A protective foot prevents the housing from direct ground contact, keeping it clean and dry during use. A harness attachment point accommodates an optional shoulder strap for extended sessions, and an integrated carrying ring allows wall storage.
