Stihl MB01-200-0007 MS400.1 C-M Petrol Chainsaw 45cm/18"
The Stihl MS400.1 C-M is a completely redesigned professional petrol chainsaw that sets a new benchmark in the 60cc class, delivering the best power-to-weight ratio of any saw in its category. At just 5.5kg, it produces 3.9 kW of power and 4.3 Nm of torque, making it highly resistant to bogging down in large timber. Its compact design, STIHL M-Tronic engine management, and refined ergonomics make it an outstanding tool for felling, delimbing, and wood preparation.
The MS400.1 C-M is a ground-up redesign of the MS 400 C-M, not simply an update. Weighing 300g less than its predecessor while maintaining superior power output, it achieves a power-to-weight ratio unmatched in the 60cc petrol chainsaw market. The increase in torque to 4.3 Nm (up from 4.1 Nm on the MS 400) means the saw is less pressure-sensitive when working through large-diameter timber and is significantly less likely to stall mid-cut.
STIHL M-Tronic provides fully electronic engine management, automatically adjusting ignition timing and fuel metering to account for external conditions including temperature, altitude, and fuel quality — ensuring consistent, optimum performance from the first pull without manual adjustment. Combined with the decompression valve and ElastoStart system, starting is straightforward even from cold.
Handling has been carefully reconsidered throughout. The rear handle geometry has been improved for a more comfortable grip, and the widened end profile allows the saw to rest securely on the leg during plunge cutting. The ribbed underside helps the saw glide smoothly along trunk surfaces when snedding, preventing bark and debris from catching. The new compact design reduces bulk and improves manoeuvrability in tight working positions.
Engine cooling has been improved through a larger magnesium flywheel and an enhanced muffler, helping maintain operating temperatures during sustained heavy use. The HD2 long-life air filter system — featuring pre-separation routing to remove coarse particles before they reach the filter, and a fine-pore PET filter element — keeps the engine protected in dirty conditions and reduces the frequency of maintenance stops during the working day.
Oil consumption is managed via the controlled-delivery Ematic oil pump system, which can reduce consumption by up to 50% in the E position, with the option to increase flow for long bars or dry wood. The oil pump control bolt is now more accessible, allowing flow adjustment on the job with a standard combi-spanner. A 50% fuel level marker on the petrol tank gives a quick visual reference to help monitor consumption. The tool-free bayonet fuel cap makes refuelling fast and secure.
The carburettor preheating system allows one-step switching between summer and winter modes, preventing icing in cold conditions. Captive sprocket cover nuts prevent loss during chain changes, and the side-mounted chain tensioner allows quick, safe re-tensioning without tools.
