A guide to popular garden structures

A guide to popular garden structures

If an Englishman’s home is his castle, then his garden is his kingdom, and choosing the perfect structure for it will make all the difference. This helpful guide looks at the most popular structures on the market.

For many of us, our garden is a natural extension to our home and reflects our personalities. It is where we can go to relax and unwind, leaving technology behind. So what should we have in the garden? Of course the final decision comes down to personal preference and there are so many garden structures available in today’s market that the choice can be daunting. Here, we look at some of our favourites.

Garden gazebos

No longer reserved for the grandest of royal parks and gardens, gazebos are stunning pavilion structures. Still relatively large, garden gazebos are suited to the bigger garden. Their pitched roofs and integral decked floors allow them to be used all year round, making them the ideal garden room and perfect for entertaining whatever the weather.

Timber pergola

Timber pergolas are a versatile garden structure that can serve many purposes. From forming walkthrough tunnels over a pathway, to being used alongside other structures or walls to create transitional spaces, pergolas are made up of timber posts and horizontal beams. While a traditional pergola has no roof, one can be added or a canopy used to create shade. A custom built pergola can be incorporated into any outdoor space and our pergola components include everything you need to build a simple pergola.

Timber arches

Timber arches look equally at home in quintessentially English cottage gardens and Mediterranean inspired spaces. Useful for extending a warm welcome to your garden when positioned at the end of a walkway or across a gateway, an arch makes a wonderful backdrop for favourite climbers and ramblers as they grow up and round. In larger gardens, an arch is a great way to form zonal areas and will help to create a spot of privacy.

Potting shed

In gardens not quite big enough for a shed and a greenhouse, a potting shed is the perfect compromise. A place not just for storing your gardening essentials, but also somewhere to sit and get away from life’s hustle and bustle. Our guide to buying a potting shed is a must-read before looking.

There are other garden structures which serve a purely practical function, but regardless of their purpose, they can still add a sense of charm and a touch of style to your garden.

Log store

A practical and necessary addition to some homes, a log store is a stylish way to keep logs dry and ventilated. Our range offers a selection of sizes including a narrow, 2ft wide, model ideal for the smaller garden.

Wooden bin store

With many households now having several wheelie bins for general refuse, gardening debris and recycling, it can be a problem making sure your garden doesn’t turn into the neighbourhood eyesore. Our wooden bin stores will accommodate one, two, or three wheelie bins and their attractive design helps to contain odours while increasing your kerb appeal.
